The Fontane potato is oval, medium sized, cream skinned, yellow flesh and has shallow eyes. It’s the most commonly used chipping variety in mainland Europe.

They are versatile in use and delicious in taste.

Growing wise: they hit optimum yield in a short space of time so they’re very farmer friendly. As the farmer wants to maximise yield over a shorter growing period. They are very susceptible to black leg so very careful selection needed for where the seed comes from.
